Administrative assistant Mariane Rodrigues had a surprise during her vacation in São Salvador, Tocantins, where her family lives. The woman had convulsions, was taken to the hospital and discovered she was pregnant hours before giving birth.
“I noticed high blood pressure from the beginning of my vacation, something I never had, but I thought it was heat, hot weather,” he told TV Anhanguera, affiliated with Rede Globo. Alongside her husband Gerôncio Jean and her 2-year-old son Pedro, Mariane arrived in São Salvador to spend her holidays in December 2024. They are from Tocantins, but have lived in Querência, Mato Grosso, for three years.
The family had a return trip scheduled for January 3rd, but Mariane fell ill and had to be rushed to the hospital. The woman told TV Anhanguera that she woke up on January 3, around 4:30 am, with severe convulsions and struggling.
“I was taken to the local basic health unit, where I received quick, precise and objective care. And it was confirmed to our surprise that I was pregnant and would urgently need a cesarean section,” she said.
Mariane explained that the news of the pregnancy was a shock for the whole family. She had no idea she was pregnant, as she had no symptoms or changes related to pregnancy. According to the woman, her menstrual cycle was normal and she was using contraceptives.
Because she needed an emergency delivery, she ended up being transferred to Palmas, where there is a neonatal Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The baby, who was born on January 3, 2025, is still in the ICU, as he was born prematurely. The mother is admitted to a private hospital, and continues to be monitored by a medical team.
“My 18-year-old son is in Querência, quite surprised because he will now have two little brothers, very happy. The little one, until last week the youngest, doesn’t really know, because he doesn’t understand. I consider my husband to be the most sensible and resilient person in the world, a super partner, and we are united in our purpose”, she stated.
