Zelensky accuses Slovak prime minister of "betting for Moscow"

The Ukrainian President assured that Kiev offered assistance to Slovakia to adapt to the end of Russian gas transit through Ukraine, but that Robert Fico refused it. “with arrogance”.

The Ukrainian President accused, this Sunday, the Slovak Prime Minister of “betting for Moscow” after Robert Fico stated on Friday that Volodymyr Zelensky “walks around Europe begging for alms”.

“The real problem is that he bet on Moscow, not on his own country, not on a united Europe and certainly not on common sense. From the beginning it was a losing bet,” Zelensky said on the social network X, in reference to head of the Slovak Government.

For the Ukrainian President, “it was a clear mistake for Fico to believe that his dark machinations with Moscow could continue forever”.

Zelensky assured that Kiev offered assistance to Slovakia to adapt to the end of Russian gas transit through Ukraine, but that Robert Fico refused. “with arrogance”.

“I’m not here to give President Zelensky a helping hand. I admit that sometimes I’m fed up with him”, declared Fico in a parliamentary session.

The leader of the Slovak Government was reacting to Zelensky’s decision not to renew the gas transit contract with the Russian gas company Gazprom through the Druzhba pipeline, depriving Slovakia of cheaper fuel and transit fees on gas supplied to third countries, worth an estimated 500 million euros annually.
