Após ‘polémica’, Sónia Araújo e Jorge Gabriel fazem comunicado: “Não devia ter acontecido…”

Jorge Gabriel was in the news in several media outlets in recent days due to the way he presented himself on the ‘Praça da Alegria’ program last Friday, January 10th.

In honor of the Three Kings, the presenter appeared dressed as King Balthazar with his face painted brown and the ‘controversy’ broke out on social media, as many internet users accused the communicator of racism.

Faced with the many criticisms and news on the topic, the presenter and Sonia Araújo reacted in a note on this Monday’s program (13).

“The Directorate of Programs asked us to read the following statement. In the last program, in honor of the Three Kings, the characterization of Jorge Gabriel as King Baltazar generated discomfort among some viewers”began by saying Sônia Araújo. “We recognize that this situation should not have happened and, as a result, we apologize.”continued Jorge Gabriel.

The presenter later stressed that the gesture was not intended to “offend the sensitivity” of viewers.

In the end, Jorge Gabriel left a reservation: “Praça da Alegria will continue to be an inclusive and respectful space for our public. Thanks”.
