The Lídia Jorge Municipal Library, in Albufeira, will host the conference “How to help deal with my child’s frustration, anxiety and impatience at school… and with mathematics”, on January 24th, between 5pm: 30 and 19:00, a session dedicated to families, led by Inês Ferreira Cruz.
This lecture is part of the “Conversation with Mathematics” project, which aims to bring parents and students closer to the subject of mathematics. The initiative aims to share practical tips and strategies to develop mathematical reasoning in a simple way and without resorting to numbers or calculations, promoting enjoyment, motivation and academic success in this subject.
The mayor of Albufeira, José Carlos Rolo, a mathematics teacher by training, recognizes the challenges associated with teaching the subject and highlights that “mathematics does not have to be a bogeyman, with many students experiencing enormous difficulties and obtaining terrible results, not only at national level but also in international rankings”.
“It is essential to find strategies to improve learning and develop mathematical skills that contribute to reducing student failure, which will make all the difference not only at school level, but also in their future professional lives”, highlights the mayor.
Inês Ferreira Cruz has a degree in Mathematics from the University of Porto and has been a teacher since 2000. She has collaborated with Porto Editora since 2014 in creating content for the Virtual School and is the author of two exercise manuals for the 8th and 9th years. With a degree in Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP), she is also the creator of the project “À Conversa Com…” and the blog .
According to Inês Cruz, “(un)success in mathematics does not only depend on teachers, schools and students… it also depends on us parents… and together, by joining forces, it can be simple to improve mathematical skills that will make a difference in the classroom ”.
Participation in the conference is free, but requires prior registration due to limited spaces. Registration must be made by January 21st by email. For more information, you can contact 289 599 692.
