Those who usually frequent Centauro sporting goods stores will have something new on their next visit. The franchise decided to install steel cables to attach international football club shirts, making it more difficult to try on the clothes and, essentially, steal them.
This is the main objective of the company, which had been witnessing an increase in the number of thefts in the clothing sector. “The football category, more specifically the official shirts of national and international clubs, are the most stolen products from our stores”, says the Centauro team.
Hence the decision to attach the shirts with steel cables, both those referring to clubs outside the country and those of national teams. The new practice has already been adopted in all franchise units, in all regions of Brazil. Anyone who decides to try on one of the shirts needs to contact one of the store’s salespeople to have the item released for use.

“The generalization of these symbolic appropriations is impacting the social life of certain communities in such a way that people are avoiding even taking photos with types of images that are not associated with the dominant criminal groups in certain locations”, declares the public security specialist, Colonel Antônio Jorge, professor of Law at Cento Universitário Estácio Fib in Bahia.
