Cold worsens and puts the entire country under yellow warning

The 18 districts of mainland Portugal will be under yellow warning due to the cold on Wednesday, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), and this Tuesday 14 districts are under yellow warning.

According to the IPMA website, the districts of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Vila Real, Bragança, Porto, Aveiro, Viseu, Guarda, Coimbra, Castelo Branco, Leiria, Santarém, Lisbon and Setúbal.

These districts have a warning valid until 9am on Wednesday due to the “persistence of low minimum temperature values”, explains IPMA.

According to information from , the districts of Faro, Beja, Évora and Portalegre join the remaining 14 in the early hours and the yellow warning will only be in force in these four districts until 09:00 on Thursday.

The yellow warning, the least serious on a scale of three, is issued by IPMA whenever there is a risk situation for certain activities depending on the meteorological situation.
