On Tuesday, the vice-chairman of the National Council (NR) of the Slovak Republic, Andrej Danko, accused the Polish side of lying regarding the solution to the request for a Sunday flight of the Slovak government special to Moscow. The Polish Embassy in the Slovak Republic said on Monday that it was surprised by Danko’s statement about not granting permission for the delegation of the Slovak Republic to fly to Moscow, reports the TASR special reporter.
“I am very sorry for the lie that the Polish side literally resorted to. Because certainly we on board the plane do not determine the route and we probably would not extend our flight by an hour if it were possible to fly directly.” said Danko.
He expects that the Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs will also take a position on the situation. “Because I don’t understand how a member state of the European Union allowed this in relation to the Slovak state aircraft, and I believe that they will apologize to us.” declared the deputy speaker of the Slovak parliament in Moscow.
The delegation of the NR SR under the leadership of vice-presidents Danko and Tibor Gašpar on Sunday she did not fly a shorter route to Moscow, but a detour through the Czech Republic and Germany. Before departure, Danko justified it by the ban on flying over the territory of Poland.
The Polish Embassy reported in a statement on Monday that the Polish side received a request from Slovakia for consent to the overflight, but due to the incompleteness of the documentation, it requested that it be supplemented including sending a standard note. However, according to the embassy, the Slovak side informed that it would change the flight route even before the application was considered.
