The young man from Paraná, Gabriel Lopacinski, aged 22, died in combat in . He was born in Mallet, in the south of Paraná, the region has a high number of Ukrainian descendants. The young man from Paraná was of Ukrainian descent and volunteered to fight in the war.
“On social media, friends and family of the young man paid tribute. “There are people who have something that sets them apart from others… charisma, a different shine, there were countless times that I stopped my classes to laugh at some joke that could only come from you, Lopa. He managed to cheer up the whole class with surreal joy and humor! It was a pleasure to have met you on this walk, and an even greater pleasure to have given you one last hug in uniform and fulfilled! Follow in peace dear!”, wrote a friend of Lopacinski.
According to family members’ publications, Lopacinski always was interested in the military and the Ukrainian army.
“Our Warrior! Rest in peace beside God. It hurts a lot to know that you won’t come back, you died doing what you loved, my dear nephew, my godson Gabriel Lopacinski. Still not believing. He died like a warrior, fighting for the freedom of our Ukraine!”, wrote an aunt of the young man.
City Hall mourns death of young man from Paraná
Mallet city hall also paid tribute to the young man. “We deeply sympathize with the loss of Gabriel Lopacinski, a young man of courage who dedicated his life to the fight for freedom in the war in Ukraine. Gabriel carried in his heart the love for the land of our ancestors and the firm conviction that freedom is an inalienable right of all peoples. Your choice to defend Ukraine demonstrates your commitment to values that transcend borders. Ukraine, motherland of so many Maltese people, had the honor of receiving one of its sons in combat”, says an excerpt from the publication.
