The 2025 Grammy Awards will maintain the scheduled date for the 67th ceremony, despite the forest fires raging in California, in the United States. The awards ceremony will take place on February 2nd, at the Crypto.com Arena, in the North American city of Los Angeles.
The event honoring the best in music was the first to announce it will take place amid the bushfires, but the awards will be reinvented to put the spotlight on first responders and will also include a charitable component.
“In challenging times, music has the power to heal, comfort and unite like nothing else,” said Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. and Board of Trustees Chair Tammy Hurt in a letter to members of the Recording Academy released this Monday (13).
“The Grammys will not only honor the artistry and achievements of our musical community, but will also serve as a platform to amplify the spirit of resilience that defines this great city of Los Angeles.”
The statement further mentions that the edition will proceed as planned, in close coordination with local authorities to “ensure public safety and the responsible use of area resources”, and that the ceremony “will carry a renewed sense of purpose: to raise additional funds to support wildfire relief efforts and honor the bravery and dedication of first responders who risk their lives to protect ours.”
Other awards were affected by the forest fires
This Monday (13), the Academy changed the date for announcing the Oscar nominees again. Last Wednesday (8), the measure had already been taken after the change in the deadline for voting on nominations, which was extended by two days due to the fires in Los Angeles.
According to Variety, the voting period, initially set to end on Tuesday (14), will now run until Friday, January 17. Nominations for the 97th ceremony will be announced next Thursday, January 23. The winners of the award, considered the biggest celebration in the world of cinema, will be announced at the ceremony scheduled for March 2.
Following the fires in Los Angeles, the 30th edition of the Critics Choice Awards was also postponed. Initially scheduled to take place next Sunday (12), the event has now been rescheduled for January 26th.
Furthermore, the SAG Awards, which announced its nominees last Wednesday (8), changed the format due to the fires. Previously scheduled to take place in person, the award nominees were revealed exclusively through the event’s website and social media.
