Ice cave that killed Brazilian collapses in Argentina

Famous ice house located in Tierra del Fuego National Park collapsed last Sunday (12) after a series of landslides in recent years. One of the most popular spots in Ushuaia, Argentina, Cueva del Jimbo had already killed a Brazilian. Advertising executive Dennis Cosmo Marin, 37, died in November after a piece of ice fell from the ceiling and hit him squarely, during an illegal visit to the site.

Cueca del Jimbo was one of the most popular places for explorers and mountaineers who visited the region. However, access to the ice structure was restricted in 2021, due to landslides.

“Jimbo Cave was a unique landmark, but its fragile structure made it extremely vulnerable. For years, small landslides were a warning of what would finally happen,” said officials at Tierra del Fuego National Park.

Experts revealed that the rock formations were vulnerable to erosion and other environmental factors. Thus, over time, they weakened their structure.

The Brazilian who died in in Ushuaia, he had been traveling in a Kombi around South America for four years with his pet cat.
