The Minister of Justice was surprised by the work meeting, announced by the President of the Assembly of the Republic, to discuss justice reform and for which Rita Júdice says she was not invited. The meeting is scheduled for February and José Pedro Aguiar-Branco intends to bring together ten proposals that promote a “cultural revolution in justice”.
The President of the Assembly of the Republic comes forward and announces something new for the next judicial year.
“A few days ago I spoke with Mr. Judge Counselor João Cura Mariano, President of the Supreme Court of Justice, to call together a working meeting on the future of justice. That is what we will do in February. A working meeting with the sector agents, a meeting to which we will invite the various interested parties, the different agents of the judicial system and also the parliamentary groups” he stated José Pedro Aguiar-Branco.
In the list of interested parties, José Pedro Aguiar-Branco does not include the Minister of Justice which, according to the he was surprised by the announcement.
HAS SICofficial source from the Ministry of Justice, confirms that Minister “was not invited or informed in advance”. To the Observador newspaper, A source from the Ministry of Justice therefore suggests that, maybe, the idea is for the Government not to be present at such a meeting”.
“I would like that from this working meeting we could extract ten simple proposals. Ten changes that we agree with and that can serve as the basis for a cultural revolution in justice”, he added.
José Pedro Aguiar-Brancodoesn’t explain why and how you want to discuss reform and the future of justice without the presence of the Minister who oversees… Justice.
