He was in Socorro, in the Campinas region, where there was also a recent report of a case of yellow fever in a monkey.

The State recorded 2 cases of the disease in humans in 2024, 1 being autochthonous (originating within the State) and the other from an infected man in Minas Gerais, who died.

The Adolfo Lutz Institute has already confirmed 9 cases of the disease in monkeys, 7 in the Ribeirão Preto region, 1 in Pinhalzinho and the other in Socorro.

Health surveillance and vaccination actions were intensified in these regions, in addition to recommending precautions for those traveling to forested areas.

The vaccine against the disease is available at health centers and must be administered at least 10 days before traveling to regions with cases.

Yellow fever

Yellow fever is transmitted through the bites of wild mosquitoes. An indicator of its presence is the death of monkeys, which also suffer from high mortality rates when contaminated.

The sighting of dead monkeys must be reported to the municipal health teams.

The initial symptoms of yellow fever are sudden fever, chills, severe body and head pain, nausea and vomiting, recurrent fatigue and weakness.
