The battle between and the newspaper The World it worsens in the courts. The Court of First Instance number 10 of Madrid has dismissed a lawsuit filed by the journalist in March of last year for various information about her salary at RTVE published in the Unidad Editorial media. The ruling handed down last Friday, two days after the verbal trial was held, orders the plaintiff to pay the costs of the trial. Intxaurrondo is preparing to appeal the sentence before the Provincial Court within the next 20 days and has accused this Tuesday from the social network The World to lie “again” due to the information published in this regard, while the newspaper and its publishing company “reserve the legal actions that undoubtedly correspond” in response.
The events date back to last year, when the newspaper directed by Joaquín Manso—also sued by the journalist—published a news item on the afternoon of March 4 headed with this headline: (the publication date appears as the next day due to subsequent modifications to the news). The day of the interview in question The leader of the PP was exposed by various data used by Intxaurrondo in his interpellations and from then on Feijóo began an erratic week prior to the elections, which continued with his absence in the debate broadcast. on Spanish Television with three of its contenders. The week ended with the candidacy of the socialist Pedro Sánchez.
The plaintiff also sought to rectify another piece of information according to which the same information attributed 25,000 euros to Intxaurrondo for her role as The co-presenter of this program, produced for RTVE by The Pool (a company led by Andrés Varela Entrecanales, director of the Grupo Prisa, editor of EL PAÍS), alleged in its rectification demand that it reserved the information on said salary for each issue of The Best in History “for being part of a contract with a company other than TVE subject to its own confidentiality rules.” Intxaurrondo added “that the amount to be collected is substantially less than indicated.” Despite this being stated in the corresponding withholding certificate, the plaintiff decided not to provide evidence in this regard in her request for the reason indicated above, but she did try to do so at trial.
Negotiations for renewal
Regarding the two aspects in question regarding its renewal in the program The Hour of 1 —the date of said agreement and the amount to be received for co-presenting and co-directing the program that is broadcast from Monday to Friday in the mornings of the first Spanish Television channel—, the plaintiff handles documentation that she tried to present as evidence during the trial about how the Conversations for the renewal of Intxaurrondo had begun before the day of Feijóo’s interview on July 17, 2023. These negotiations continued at the beginning of August of that year, as confirmed by communications between Silvia’s representation Intxaurrondo and RTVE. And until the 21st of that month, the corporation’s pact with the journalist was not signed through the Sukun communication company, established at the end of July.
The plaintiff also tried to argue that the amount of 537,514 euros (a figure that appears in RTVE’s internal cost file) for two annual seasons is also not correct, as it assumes a maximum limit in case of presenting each and every one of the 520 daily broadcasts. which would mean being on the air every week from Monday to Friday for two years. The documentation for the period between September 2023 (start date of the new hiring) and September 2024 reflects that Intxaurrondo has co-directed and co-presented 209 broadcasts of the program on weekdays and three on holidays, which represents fewer days than the 260 which would have meant appearing live every working week of their first annual contract period, without breaks on other holidays, Christmas, Easter and summer. These documents have not been taken into account as evidence in the trial.
Discussion between the parties
The sentence reflects how Intxaurrondo’s husband, administrator of the Sukun company through which her contract was renewed, had a conversation with the journalist who signed the information after the publication of the first news and then modifications were made to it. on the website. “After the initial information on March 4, the parties discuss whether it was on March 5 or 6 when the defendant modified and completed the notice indicating that the contract renewal file began on July 17,” it says. the judicial resolution.
The ruling adds: “This new publication is stated by the defendant that it was made following the plaintiff’s complaint and the conversations of her husband and administrator of the company they have together, Mr. Farouk, with the journalist who signed the information. This has been corroborated with their testimony by both Mr. Farouk and the journalist Ms. Mucientes. Although it is true that both witnesses disagree on the date on which the first contacted the second for the first time, the truth is that it is irrelevant for the resolution of the procedure since the requests of the plaintiff’s husband did not formally constitute the exercise of the right to rectification of the aforementioned and also all modifications or additions to the news were prior to the exercise of that right.” Given this circumstance, the ruling concludes: “Once the information has been corrected and clarified in advance and in accordance with what is now requested, it is not appropriate to reiterate this right in court.”
Appealable sentence
Intxaurrondo intends to appeal the ruling that condemns him to the costs of the trial before the Provincial Court of Madrid in the next 20 days, while this Tuesday he accused The World from his account in X of lying “again” for his coverage of the sentencing. The journalist has written in a post of this social network: “The judge, not me, affirms that The World has ‘rectified’, ‘completed’, ‘corrected’ and ‘clarified’ her information over 4 days and therefore does not admit what she considers ‘a new rectification’. Far from being ashamed, The World “He intends to sell as a triumph what in reality is nothing more than evidence of his already habitual malpractice.”
‼️ The World lies again.
Only false information needs to be rectified and completed and corrected and clarified.
More than nine months ago I filed a lawsuit against El Mundo for publishing false information about me. It took seven months to be admitted.
Last week, the…— Silvia Intxaurrondo (@SIntxaurrondo)
In a report this Tuesday following these words from Intxaurrondo, the Unidad Editorial newspaper published the following: “El Mundo’ always maintained—and still maintains—the title RTVE renewed Silvia Intxaurrondo for 537,000 euros on the same day as her tough interview with Alberto Núñez Feijóo because that is the documented truth. This newspaper introduced modifications to the news at the express request of the presenter’s partner, and presented them to the court, because they do not change the essential meaning of the information in any way, but rather complement and strengthen it. It is about the breakdown of the amounts — “the contract is for two years, so 700 euros for 260 annual programs is 182,000 euros and for two years it makes a total of 364,000 euros, to which 787 euros per day for 11 should be added months as co-director, which makes a total for the two years of 173,514 euros”—and the precision that the date of the 17th July corresponds to the beginning of the “contracting file”. Said information ends like this: “El Mundo’ and the Unidad Editorial group reserve the legal actions that undoubtedly correspond to them for the continued interference in their right to the honor of Silvia Intxaurrondo.”
