The American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), awarding the prestigious Oscar film awards, has postponed the announcement of this year’s nominations for the second time. She did so because of the devastating forest fires in Los Angeles, the organizers announced on Monday according to the AFP agency, writes TASR.

The organizers moved the original date of January 17 to January 19 and due to the situation, the nominations will be announced on January 23.

“Due to the still-active wildfires in the Los Angeles area, we feel it is necessary to extend voting and move up the nomination date to give our members more time,” AMPAS Executive Director Bill Kramer and AMPAS President Janet Yang said in a statement.

The Academy also canceled its annual nominees luncheon scheduled for February 10. The telecast of the award ceremony should take place on the originally scheduled date of March 2, writes Reuters.

The planned Grammy music industry awards ceremony on February 2nd is also unchanged. “However, this year’s show will take on new meaning – raising additional funds to support bushfire relief and honoring the courage and sacrifice of frontline responders who risk their lives to protect ours.” said the representatives of the organization presenting the prestigious award.
