They are beautiful plants even when they don’t flower. Many growers liked quivers for their beautiful flowers, but also for their very pretty leaves. You can encourage them to flower with a fairly common household fertilizer.

Are you growing a beautiful quiver?

Lopatkovec, or quiver, is a popular indoor plant in our country, not only for its beautiful white flowers, but also for its very decorative dark green leaves. It is a plant that copes well with poor light conditions, so it is often placed, for example, in corridors or other places, but away from windows.

You can improve the quills, as well as other housemaids, with homemade lentil fertilizer. Learn how to prepare it in this post from the SA Home Garden YouTube channel.

What does a happy quiver need?

Quiver belongs to the flowers that love diffused light. It is therefore advisable to place it somewhere where it will not suffer from direct sunlight. However, in the shadier corners of your apartment, there may be a lack of light in winter. Then you can place it, for example, directly on the windowsill or behind the curtain, as there is no risk of the sun burning it during the winter.

Even though quiver is a popular plant and quite common in our country, it is a little more susceptible to watering. Therefore, beginners are sometimes afraid to grow it. Many beginners feel that they have to stand in the water all the time, but that would be a big mistake. Few plants can handle having water in the bowl all the time. Conversely, waterlogged plants often start to rot from the roots and soon die.

Not sure how often to water your quince? Look at her leaves. With a lack of moisture, the plant does not immediately begin to dry out, turn yellow and die. If it lacks moisture, the leaves droop and look wilted. After that, it is enough to water it or just stand it in a sink with water for a few minutes, where the substrate can really absorb the moisture. Then let the pot stand well and water well, and in a few minutes the plant will be bursting with health again.

Of course, it is not necessary to wait for the plant to wilt. On the other hand, you will find out what watering intervals suit the quiver. The quiver also loves higher air humidity. Therefore, you can also mist it from time to time.

Temperatures between 18 and 25 °C are suitable for quivers. In winter, therefore, be careful about ventilation and drafts, a cold corridor may not suit the plant. If it seems to you that the plant needs a bigger pot, definitely wait until spring to repot. Now you could rather give the plant a shock.

Thanks to home fertilizing, it will bloom even in winter

To make your plant bloom even in winter, try improving it with a nutritious home fertilizer. A home-made fertilizer made from lentils, for example, is suitable for flower support. This fertilizer is rich in amino acids that support plant growth and regeneration after stress. It also contains minerals such as calcium, phosphorus and iron, which are important for the health of flower roots. And last but not least, it also contains natural enzymes stimulating normal cell metabolism, which also helps to set the flower.

How to prepare it? It is very easy. Soak two tablespoons of dry lentils in half a liter of water overnight. The next morning, blend the mixture in a regular blender. Leave to macerate for a short time and then drain all the liquid. Dilute this liquid in a 1:2 ratio before use. Lentil home fertilizer is suitable to be applied every 2 to 3 weeks.

However, winter is the time when we usually try to let the plants breathe a little. Quiver flowers usually bloom in mid-spring and also in autumn.
