The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends daily consumption of fruits and vegetables for children, with amounts varying between 250 and 400 grams per day, depending on age. However, it is common for parents to face difficulties and resistance when trying to introduce new flavors, colors and textures. To make this acceptance more natural, being creative when presenting food can be a great strategy.
With this in mind, Ventura Shopping promotes the second edition of the “Aventura das Frutas” event, with the aim of teaching, from an early age, the importance of fruits for health. “The children will be welcomed by the recreation team and will have the opportunity to explore different flavors, such as sweet, sour and bitter, stimulating their sense of smell. Fun will be guaranteed with the creation of fruit sculptures in different shapes, such as flowers and animals”, explains Ventura Shopping marketing manager, Daniela Leal. At the end of the activity, each child will receive a coloring book, with playful information about the benefits of consuming fruit, including everyday situations for children, such as what to eat when their “tummy hurts”.
For the nutritionist at Spa Estância do Lago, Thaís Maria de Brito, two factors are essential in children’s diets: eating habits and the consumption of fruits, which are rich in micronutrients. “Eating habits are acquired in childhood. It is at this stage that an adequate food introduction must occur so that, in adolescence and adulthood, fruit consumption is maintained. Fruits are very rich in vitamins and minerals and are extremely important for health. They help prevent diseases, strengthen immunity with their fibers and micronutrients, in addition to acting as a coenzyme in vital functions, such as growth and learning”, he highlights.

The nutritionist recommends that children consume three to four servings of fruit per day. “Parents can offer the fruits already sanitized and chopped into homemade measures, like a cup of tea. These portions can be distributed throughout the day: for breakfast, as dessert, as an afternoon snack or even as a supper before bed.” Thaís also emphasizes the importance of varying the fruits and their colors. “Each fruit has a predominance of certain vitamins and minerals. Thinking about colors, if we offer a green fruit in the morning, we can offer a red fruit for dessert and an orange fruit before bed. No one needs to know exactly which vitamins each fruit has, but by varying the colors, we guarantee the consumption of all the necessary vitamins and minerals.”
A lack of fruit in the diet can generate signs such as malnutrition, growth delay, dry skin, constipation, excessive weakness and tiredness, which can even interfere with school performance. “The lack of vitamins and minerals from fruits directly affects children’s learning, influencing reasoning and the ability to store information. Furthermore, immunity and adequate growth also depend on fruit consumption”, concludes the nutritionist.
