Composer’s Day is celebrated this Wednesday (15) in a tradition imported from Mexico. On this date, professionals who write and create music are celebrated, in addition to those who create song melodies.

The reason why Composer’s Day is celebrated this Wednesday dates back to 1945, when, on January 15, the Society of Authors and Composers of Mexico (SACM) was founded. The date began to be celebrated in 1983 in the North American country, when it was established on the same day that the Mexican Union of Authors, Composers and Music Editors (SMACEM) was created.

Over the years, the tradition arrived in Brazil, which, before that, established a date to celebrate the . Herivelto Martins, a famous singer from the era, not only established that Brazilian Composer’s Day would be celebrated on October 7, but also founded the Brazilian Union of Composers.

Worldwide, there is another date for celebrating composers: April 9th. International Composers’ Day is celebrated on this day in honor of the first recording of the human voice in history, made by Edouard-Leon Scoot de Martinville, in the song “Clare De La Lune”, on April 9, 1860.
