The groups for the 2025 Northeast Cup have been defined. The 16 clubs participating in the regional tournament met their first phase rivals during a draw held on Tuesday night (14), at a hotel in Barra da Tijuca, in Rio de Janeiro. The competition will have two brackets, with eight teams in each. Vitória is in Group A, while Bahia and Juazeirense went to Group B.
Unlike previous years, clubs will face each other within their own group during the first phase of the championship – and no longer against teams from the other group. The top four in each group advance to the quarter-finals, the format of which will be as follows: 1st in Group A x 4th in Group B; 2nd Group A x 3rd in Group B; 1st Group B x 4th in Group A; and 2nd Group B x 3rd Group A.
The quarterfinals and semis will be played in a single game, with a command advantage for the team with the best campaign. In the event of a draw in normal time, the team will be decided on penalties. The final will take place in round-trip duels, with the decisive match at the home of the team with the best overall campaign in Nordestão.
The tournament is scheduled to start next Wednesday (22). The round-trip games of the final are initially scheduled for the 3rd and 7th of September. For the first time, the championship will be broadcast on Premiere.
During the event’s ceremony, the president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues, confirmed that the champion of the Copa do Nordeste will maintain his place in the third phase of the 2026 Copa do Brasil.
