In a video posted to the police department’s social media, rescuers — believed to be from the local fire department — were seen crawling along a mooring line toward a hole in the ice next to an empty rowboat. See the moment of rescue:
According to police, a call was made at 4:45 pm (local time) on Sunday about a dog that had fallen through the lake ice. The caller also added that the owner did the same after trying to rescue the animal.
“Both the human and the dog were far from shore and were unable to return,” according to text recorded on the police video.
After pulling the dog’s owner to shore, rescuers returned and managed to rescue the barking canine as the sun set.
“Both the human and dog are doing well after being evaluated at the hospital and veterinary clinic,” the police department commented in its social media post about the rescue operation.
