Country music star Carrie Underwood will sing at Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20.
Underwood, who launched her career after winning “American Idol,” is scheduled to appear shortly before Trump is sworn in, according to a copy of the inauguration program provided to The Associated Press.
“I love our country and am honored to be asked to sing at the inauguration and be a small part of this historic event,” Underwood said in a statement. “It is a moment when we must all come together with the spirit of unity and look to the future.”
According to the Independent, she will be accompanied by the Armed Forces Chorus and the United States Naval Academy Glee Club.
With “YMCA” the events before the swearing-in
Also the famous American group ‘Village People’, who became famous in the late 70s for their dance-pop hits, will perform at two events before the inauguration. It is noted that their song “YMCA” became a staple of Trump’s campaign rallies along with their hit “Macho Man”.
“We know this won’t make some of you happy to hear, however we believe that music should be performed regardless of politics,” the band said in a post on their Facebook page.
“Our song YMCA is a global anthem that we hope will help unite the country after a tumultuous and divisive election campaign where our preferred candidate lost,” they added.
Country singer Lee Greenwood will also be on stage at the swearing-in ceremony, while Christopher Mazio has performed the national anthem, succeeding Lady Gaga who sang in 2021.
