Government publishes decree creating the More Teachers Program

Initiative will offer scholarships from R$1,050 to R$2,100 for undergraduate students and those who teach in remote regions

The decree establishing the More Teachers Program for Brazil was published in this Wednesday’s edition (15.Jan.2025) of the (Official Gazette of the Union). The event took place on Tuesday (January 14), in a ceremony attended by the president (PT).

The decree creates the PND (National Teaching Test), which will be carried out annually and will function as a type of database so that municipal and state networks can more quickly capture the teachers they need.

It will be carried out annually by the (National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira). Those interested apply directly to the institute.

The program will have two types of incentive: one for undergraduate students, who will receive one during their degree, and another for those who want to teach in remote regions of the country.

In the case of degreethere will be a monthly scholarship of R$1,050, but only those who have good grades in the (National Secondary Education Examination) will be able to access the benefit.

Future teachers will be able to withdraw R$700 per month. The other R$350 will go to that student’s savings account. These resources can only be accessed when the beneficiary enters the public education system as a teacher within 5 years of finishing his degree. On a 4-year course, it would be R$16,800 without counting the remuneration for this savings.

According to the Minister of Education, Enem 2024 grades can now be used for the Nesting Fee for Degrees. There will be 12,000 vacancies based on student performance.

The government already wants the 1st installment to be paid in April, with the start of the university academic year.

In the case of the More Teachers for Brazilteachers who enter the public basic education network – up to high school – will have an increase of R$ 2,100 to the salary they would already receive by the municipality or State to work in regions with a low supply of teachers. Payment will only be for up to 2 years.

According to the (Ministry of Education), around 33% of basic education teaching institutions do not have teachers with the appropriate training for the area they teach. And only 1/3 of those who graduate enter a teaching career.

According to the government, during the period of receiving the scholarship, the benefited teacher will also undertake a postgraduate course focusing on teaching. There would be 2.3 million teachers from public and private networks who could be impacted according to the Planalto.

According to Santana, the program will be R$1.7 billion in 2 years.
