Lisbon City Council wants to create bus lane on the A5

Lisbon City Council defends the creation of a “bus” corridor on the A5 motorway, which connects the capital with Cascais.

The Lisbon Chamber defended this Tuesday that the creation of a “bus” corridor on the A5 It is a project of “great importance” in the Metropolitan Area, including to reinforce the use of public transport.

“It seems to us that it is an important project and, as far as we know, the Government has also signaled it as a priority project in terms of mobility in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area”, said the vice-president of the Lisbon Chamber, Filipe Anacoreta Correia.

“It is, in fact, a project of great importance and it seems to us that it would be very important to have alternatives for people to enter the city and, in this way, also contribute to a improving city mobility“, explained the CDS-PP mayor, highlighting the municipal executive’s investment in public transport, particularly in the municipal company Carris.

Isabel Mendes Lopesfrom the Livre party, asked about the bus lane network, the Carris information system, the measures to reduce road accidents and when the council will implement the approved proposal for a generalized reduction in the maximum speed of circulation bus station in the city.

Appealing to “balance and common sense”, taking into account all types of mobility, Anacoreta Correia considered that Livre’s speech “is aggressive, radical and very extremist”, because it “ignores reality” and defends reducing speed to 30 kilometers per hour “blindly”.

In other “stops”…

The PEV municipal deputy Claudia Madeira asked when the special service for people with reduced mobility will now be integrated into the Navegante public transport pass, to which Anacoreta Correia clarified that “it will be available from January 20th”.

Cláudia Madeira also sought information about the expansion of the Lisbon Metropolitan network, in particular the transformation of the circular line into a loop line, to which Anacoreta Correia said that the Government commissioned studies to “understand the viability of a loop line and , eventually, its conciliation/compatibility with the circular line”, awaiting a decision on this matter.

In response to the BE deputy Joana Teixeirathe vice-mayor highlighted the free public transport for young and oldindicating that this measure has already benefited 90 thousand people, of which “around half” are new users, and highlighted the investment in Carris, with 220 million until 2027, including for growth and improvement of the fleet.
