Portugal, known for its rich gastronomy, was featured this time in the TasteAtlas online guide for less positive reasons. Traditional chicken gizzards were included in the list of the 100 worst dishes in the world, based on more than 400 thousand reviews carried out by users of the platform.
Gizzards, a typical Portuguese snack, were described by TasteAtlas as “a dish made of chicken gizzards slowly cooked in tomato sauce, onion, garlic, white wine and spices”. Despite being popular in taverns and restaurants, mainly as an aperitif, the dish received a rating of 2.3 stars, ranking 16th on the list of the worst dishes in the world.

The Top 10 of the table is led by Blodpalt from Finland, followed by Bocadillo de sardinas from Spain and Calskrove from Sweden.
Despite this classification, Portuguese gastronomy continues to be celebrated internationally. Recently, Alentejo was voted the 9th best gastronomic region in the world, and the iconic pastel de Belém was recognized as the best pastry in the world by the same guide.
Although the inclusion of gizzards on the list is a setback, it is important to remember that gastronomic appreciation is subjective, and this dish remains a delight for many Portuguese and visitors seeking authentic flavors in Portugal.
