‘More teachers’: government announces financial aid and annual teacher competition

The federal government announced this Tuesday, the 14th, two types of financial aid to encourage a teaching career and an annual competition to select teachers across the country.

The announcements were made by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) as part of the “More teachers” program, which will reach 2.3 million teachers. The Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, has focused on the topic as one of the hallmarks of his administration.

How the Estadão anticipated, the federal government will pay R$1,050 reais per month to undergraduate students.

The amount will be divided into a portion of R$700 that can be withdrawn and another of R$350 that will be reserved as savings;

The installment of R$350 can be withdrawn when the student graduates and starts working in the public education network within five years after completing the course.

Scholarship More teachers

The president also announced the payment of the “More Teachers Scholarship”, a monthly benefit of R$2,100 for teachers who accept to work in regions facing a lack of professionals.

The amount will be a bonus that will be added to the salary received by the teacher;

During the period of receiving the scholarship, teachers will undertake a lato sensu postgraduate course with a focus on teaching.

In an interview with Estadão in November, Camilo stated that “in the same way that today there is a lack of doctors in a given region or municipality, there is also a lack of teachers.”

National Teaching Test

The government also announced the creation of the National Teaching Test (PND), which will be a type of annual competition held by the National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (Inep).

Based on the selection process, the government will build a type of pool of professionals that can be used by states and municipalities to hire teachers.

The MEC formed a partnership with public banks, such as Banco do Brasil and Caixa Econômica Federal to offer some facilities to teachers, including:

Credit card with no annual fee

Discounts of up to 10% on hotel rates, including during major events and holidays.
