The investigation into the attack on the settlement of the (Landless Rural Workers Movement) in Tremembé (SP) generated friction between the (PT) and (Republican) governments.
The action, which left two dead and six injured by gunshots, took place last Friday night (10).
Members of the federal administration point to an alleged rush by the São Paulo police to rule out the possibility that the crime was related to the presence of the crime in the Vale do Paraíba region — a hypothesis refuted before all those involved were identified. They also question whether local politicians, linked to right-wing parties, may have any involvement in the case.
On the other hand, members of the Tarcísio government deny any direction to the police other than to clarify the facts. They argue that, in less than 48 hours after the attack, one person was already arrested and another had already had a temporary arrest order issued by the Court, which, according to them, demonstrates the priority given to the case.
Amid mutual distrust, the Federal and Civil Police, linked respectively to the Lula and Tarcísio governments, are carrying out the investigations independently.
HAS Sheet of Agrarian Development, expressed his discontent.
He questioned why Civil Police investigations are not being conducted by a specialized sector in the capital. “Why is the investigation being carried out by the local police, and not by the DHPP [departamento de homicídios]a specialized body?” he asked.
He also highlighted that, so far, only one person has been arrested, while “25” would have participated in the attack, according to him — the number has not been confirmed by the Civil Police.
The minister was in Tremembé over the weekend, heard from MST members and Incra employees and spoke with the Civil Police. He stated that the Federal Police continue to monitor the case.
Teixeira knew Valdir do Nascimento de Jesus, 52, one of the MST coordinators in the region, murdered in the attack.
The crime occurred when a convoy of vehicles and motorcycles went to an empty lot in the settlement hours after a man threatened Valdir. Fearing the occupation of the lot, he organized a vigil on the disputed land.
As they approached the convoy at the entrance to the lot, the MST members were greeted by gunfire.
The report referred the minister’s questions to Palácio dos Bandeirantes, which did not respond. Instead, Tarcísio’s communication indicated delegate Múcio Mattos Monteiro, director of the Civil Police in the Vale do Paraíba region, to comment on the case.
“The case here is a dispute over a lot. One person negotiated the lot with another three years ago. They had a disagreement,” said the delegate. “Those are the facts.”
To date, the Civil Police have arrested Antônio Martins dos Santos Filho, 41, known as Nero do Piseiro, who allegedly confessed to participating in the attack. Another suspect, Ítalo Rodrigues da Silva, has been on the run since Sunday (12), when he had
According to the delegate, Ítalo was the man who claimed ownership of the lot and organized the attack. Monteiro stated that the settlers who were shot and killed would have received the convoy, on the day of the attack, with sticks, which could have contributed to the attack.
The delegate also said that investigations continue, but did not detail how many people are being sought. He also said that two cars and three motorcycles were used in the action — a different number from that reported by MST members, who mentioned at least five cars, including a Volkswagen Amarok pickup truck, in addition to the motorcycles.
Monteiro also questioned the legitimacy of the settlement, stating that the former owners of the land were never compensated by Incra (National Institute of Colonization and ) and saying that there was no agricultural production in the area.
The settlement was regularized by Incra in 2005. Last December, all MST members occupying the area had their situation in the area regulated.
Valdir, the dead leader, even sent a WhatsApp message to his colleagues celebrating the feat. The lack of allocation of the empty lot, which was in dispute, on the other hand, made leaders of the movement complain about the institute after the crime.
