Josenildo Belarmino de Moura Júnior had only served in the position for two months; Civil Police are investigating the possibility that at least three men participated in the crime
A 32-year-old deputy was shot dead on the morning of this Tuesday, 14th, at Chácara Santo Antônio, in the south zone of . According to preliminary information, Josenildo Belarmino de Moura Júnior was shot four times: two in the back, one in the arm and one in the throat. Moura Júnior had only been acting as a delegate for two months. He had graduated in the last class of 2024. “It’s very sad, we don’t even have anything to talk about,” the acting Secretary of Public Security, delegate Osvaldo Nico Gonçalves, told Estadão. The case occurs just over three months after the death of another deputy in an attempted robbery in Vila Romana, in the Lapa region, in the west of the capital.
According to Gonçalves, the Civil Police are investigating the hypothesis that at least three men participated in Tuesday’s action. In addition to the thief who fired the shots, the others were said to be on two motorcycles “It’s very audacious. We will investigate until we can arrest those who participated”, said the delegate. The case is investigated by the State Department of Criminal Investigations (Deic), with support from the 6th Sectional Police Station. A security camera recorded the crime. In the images, it is possible to see the police chief, who was off duty, wearing a t-shirt, shorts and flip-flops, walking along Amaro Guerra Street. Afterwards, the criminal arrives on a motorbike and parks in front of a section of sidewalk, close to a construction site.
The thief then gets out of the vehicle and approaches the victim. Wearing a helmet and pointing the gun at Moura Júnior, he searched the deputy, who was armed. He then shoots the victim, who falls next to a car. The criminal escapes on a motorcycle. “From what we found, he (Moura Júnior) handed over his cell phone and the gun, but the robber may have thought he had another gun and shot him in the back,” said Gonçalves. The deputy was rescued (he even received cardiac massage at the scene) and taken to Campo Limpo Hospital, but he did not survive.
On social media, the of São Paulo mourned the death of the delegate. “The Civil Police sympathizes with family and friends in light of the police chief’s untimely death,” the institution noted. The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), said, also through social media, that Moura Júnior’s death will not go unpunished. “My deepest sympathies go out to the family and friends of police chief Josenildo Belarmino de Moura Junior, who had only been with the Civil Police for seven months and was cowardly shot in the back during a robbery. A barbaric crime that will not go unpunished! The police forces are committed to searching for and capturing the criminal so that he can be punished within the strictness of the law”, he published on X (formerly Twitter).
