For the year 2024, the Czech Republic received 372 million crowns (almost 15 million euros) from the EU fund as compensation for its military aid to Ukraine. Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, it is already almost 29 million euros. The Czech Ministry of Defense stated this in a press release on Wednesday, reports TASR in Prague.

“At the end of 2024, the remaining 127 million crowns were paid to the Czech Republic for the supply of material. In total, for the year 2024, the Czech Republic received 372 million crowns, and further refunds will follow again this year,” announced the department. For the years 2022 to 2023, the Czech Republic received 360 million, the total amount so far amounts to more than 730 million crowns (almost 29 million euros). According to the ministry, reimbursement should continue at least until 2027.

“Ukraine’s support through the supply of military equipment represents a very important help for the attacked country in the war. Therefore, we must definitely continue. I welcome that the EU perceives the importance of support and reimburses the costs,” stated Czech Minister of Defense Jana Černochová, saying that the Czech Republic is not weakening its own defense capabilities, but can use the financial compensation to purchase new military equipment.

The EU partially compensates the military supplies of member countries to Ukraine through the European Peace Facility (EPF). It was originally established to finance the Union’s missions and operations and to stabilize the EU’s partner countries, from 2022 it is also used for the said refunds, so that member countries can continue to invest in the modernization of their defense capabilities.
