The Euroleague dressed up for a night as the NBA. He and Maccabi staged a scoring madness in a duel at the Movistar Arena that the whites scored 116-113. Defensive systems were blown up to the delight of the fans as well as the despair of the coaches, Chus Mateo and Oded Kattash. The four sets described an ode to attacking basketball: 33-30, 24-33, 34-27 and 25-23.
The 120 points scored when halftime arrived (57-63) represented the first half with the most scoring in the history of the Euroleague. The 229 in the final also marked a record in the competition without counting the duels with extra time.
Madrid scored its sixth straight victory in Europe led by Campazzo’s 31 points, Hezonja’s 25 and Musa’s 20, with another 20 from Jokubaitis on the rival side. Curiously, Tavares did not shoot a basket once in 25 minutes. Madrid scored 24 free throws out of 25 attempts. Maccabi, 26 of 26.
The same emotion was experienced in Vitoria between Baskonia and Olympiacos (Madrid’s rival this Thursday), a duel that the Greek team scored 101-102 after extra time. Laso’s team stood up to the Euroleague leader, who won thanks to 22 points from McKissic and Fournier and 19 from their star, Vezenkov.
