However, she especially recommended consumption tomatoes. The CDC concluded that these were the clear winners of the list. Lemons, strawberries, oranges, limes, blueberries and grapefruits also found high in the ranking.

The main reason is lycopene contenti.e. a strong antioxidant that reduces the risk of heart disease and cancer (including especially the prostate, mouth, esophagus, throat, lungs and liver). The substance prevents the deposition of atherosclerotic plaques in blood vessels and reduces too high cholesterol levels.

However, tomatoes contain much more nutrients needed by the body. This source of vitamin C and Kwhich ensure proper circulation, support metabolism, improve immunity and strengthen bones. They are also a treasure trove of potassiumwhich lowers blood pressure and prevents heart disease.

What’s more, B vitamins and lycopene help protect the skin against the negative effects of UV radiation. How to use tomatoes in the kitchen to take advantage of their health-promoting potential? You can eat them raw – e.g. in salads or sandwiches – but it is even better to heat them. Lycopene is absorbed most quickly from cooked tomatoesso it is worth preparing sauces, soups and purees. To increase the absorption of lycopene, you should also combine fruit with olive oil or other healthy fats.

However, you must remember that not everyone can eat tomatoes. Fruit is not recommended for people suffering from gastritis and ulcers, as well as all those who have problems with the gastrointestinal tract. People suffering from gout and rheumatoid arthritis should also limit their consumption.
