Former husband of model Gisele Bündchen, Tom Brady hired a private security scheme to prevent his mansion in Los Angeles from being looted amid the fires that are devastating the region. The former American football player’s property is valued at US$20 million (R$122 million, at current prices). Brady’s property is more than 1,300 square feet. The information is from The Sun newspaper.

Local authorities and residents’ associations have warned of the actions of criminals during the evacuation of threatened neighborhoods to break into homes and take luxury items. The former player is traveling to follow the NFL play-offs, the national American football league. Brady’s office has not officially commented on the case.

The fires in Los Angeles, in the western United States, have already caused 24 deaths, left 16 people missing and forced 180,000 people to evacuate their homes since last Tuesday (7). Fireworks, downed electrical wires and possible arson are some of the causes speculated by authorities, according to information from the Associated Press.

According to local authorities, the arrival of winds of more than 100 km/h in the region could further increase the severity of the disaster. Conditions are expected to worsen over the next few days due to gusty winds. The total number of residents under evacuation orders is now about 100,000, after peaking at 180,000.
