The incoming US administration will pursue “bold diplomacy” to end Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Marco Rubio, the nominee of the newly elected US President Donald Trump for the post of US Foreign Minister, said on Wednesday. TASR informs about it according to the agencies AFP and Reuters.
“This war must end, and I think it should be the official policy of the United States that we want to see it end.” declared Rubio during his hearing on the floor of the US Senate. “It will not be an easy endeavor… but it will require bold diplomacy,” he emphasized.
According to him, it is important for everyone to be a “realist”. “Concessions will have to be made by the Russian Federation, but also by the Ukrainians,” Rubio noted.
Trump himself previously declared that he would end the war in Ukraine in a single dayreminds AFP. Meanwhile, his allies are talking about limiting aid to Ukraine in order to lead it to territorial concessions.
Rubio, who is in his third term as senator for Floridais a former political opponent of Trump, who vehemently supported Ukraine and NATO, writes AFP.
Trump did not speak very favorably of NATO during his first term in office, calling the Alliance a bad deal for the US. Rubio distanced himself from calls to withdraw from NATO, but said it was important for the United States not only to have defense allies, but to have capable allies.
