The Ministry of Finance (MF) of the Slovak Republic once again warns against the so-called deepfake video, which spreads mainly through social networks. The fake audio-visual report gives the impression that it is a news article in which Finance Minister Ladislav Kamenický (Smer-SD) explains how to invest profitably. In fact, the identities of the people appearing in the video were misused and their statements were edited with the help of artificial intelligence, the press department of the Ministry of Finance reported on Thursday.
“The Ministry of Finance warns anyone who registers this video to ignore its content and not distribute it further. At the same time, it asks the more digitally savvy part of the public not to be indifferent to their surroundings and to pay attention to the activities of people with weaker digital skills and a tendency to act gullible,” emphasized the department. Vulnerable groups include not only less experienced Internet users, for example some seniors, but also people with a tendency to gamble or people who are less oriented in the field of Internet security.
“Unfortunately, with the advent of artificial intelligence, it is becoming easier and more accessible to manipulate the voice, appearance and characteristic expression of personality. Deepfake video, fake news (fake news) and hoax (fake news spread by email) belong to hybrid threats whose aim is to exploit the ignorance and trustworthiness of the addressee in order to manipulate his actions or influence his values and attitudes“, the ministry added.
