After the bite, Paloma had to take the rabies vaccine, which cost R$4,200. The influencer will still need to take another four doses.

“The first (dose) was more expensive because I had never had a rabies vaccine in my life. So I had to take hemoglobin to speed up the rabies vaccine process because the monkey had just bitten me”, he explained.

Along with the two vaccines, Paloma needed to take six more, including the tetanus vaccine. In total, she took eight at once.

For the remaining four doses, the influencer will need to pay an additional R$2,400, totaling almost R$7,000. “I’m feeling the side effects of the vaccines, body aches, weakness… But I’m fine”, he clarified.

Dangers of rabies

Rabies is a serious acute viral infectious disease caused by viruses of the Lyssavirus genus, of the Rabhdoviridae family. According to information from the Ministry of Health, the condition affects mammals, including humans, and is characterized as a progressive and acute encephalitis with a lethality rate of approximately 100%.

It is transmitted to humans through the saliva of infected animals, mainly through bites. It can also be passed through scratches and/or licks from animals.

The disease is prevented through vaccines, both human and animal. “Rabies is extremely important for public health, due to its approximately 100% lethality rate, as it is a disease that can be eliminated in its urban cycle (transmitted by dogs and cats) and due to the existence of efficient prevention measures, such as vaccination. human and animal health, the provision of human anti-rabies serum, the carrying out of focus blocks, among others”, says the Ministry’s website.
