The Israeli Prime Minister’s office this morning accused Hamas of creating a “last minute crisis”, after allegedly trying to change details of the ceasefire project announced on Thursday by Qatar. For Maria João Tomás, the obstacle may be related to the release of Marwan Barghouti, “the great prisoner who can bring together Fatah in the West Bank and Hamas in Gaza”, that is, a possible “conciliator”.
“We need to be careful, Trump is holding his own in all this, but Hamas, in the form of his second, the Shura Council, is a kind of council that Hamas has. Maria João Tomás emphasizes that Marwan Barghouti was not on the list for the release of Israeli prisoners and this could be the point of contention.
