Did you see this at the ATM? Know that it does not compromise your safety

A video is circulating on the social network Facebook that shows an ATM on which a cursor appears on the screen that moves when touched. The author of the video says that the presence of this cursor means that the ATM is hacked and that, when you insert the card, your data will be stolen by criminals. Faced with this video, many people have been worried about the cursor that sometimes appears at the ATM.

Polígrafo went to investigate and questioned SIBS, the company responsible for managing the Multibanco and ATM Express networks, about the veracity of the video whose author states that “when you see this ‘little mouse cursor’ in the Multibanco, don’t insert the card”, adding that “ If you put in your card and PIN, they keep the data and can withdraw money.”

In statements to , SIBS denies the veracity of the video, arguing that “the aforementioned visualization of the cursor in the video circulating on social networks does not affect the integrity of the equipment in any way, and it can be used in complete safety”.

The company also guarantees all customers that “the Multibanco network is equipped with mechanisms for permanent monitoring and detection of anomalous functioning potentially related to crime”. “New prevention and control measures are continuously implemented in the Multibanco network, in order to prevent future occurrences”, adds SIBS.

This means that, contrary to what appears in the video that is circulating on Facebook, the presence of a cursor that moves when touched on the ATM does not represent any danger in terms of invasion of privacy and theft of customer data. .
