The former footballer Fábio Coentrãowho after football turned his attention to fishing, found himself involved in an inspection operation that culminated in the seizure of 1020 kilos of seafood in an illegal farm.

The live seafood was found in a warehouse, in the fishing port of Póvoa de Varzim, and functioned as a sales location, but it did not have the necessary licenses, according to this Thursday.

The General Directorate of Natural Resources, Security and Maritime Services (DGRM) found 12 tanks with sea water where they were lobsters, shrimps and, in greater quantity (around 90%), santolas.

Of more than a thousand kilos, 760 kilos had no documentation that proved their origin, and are therefore classified as illegal. For another 260 kilos, invoices and documentation were presented, but the establishment lacked licenses operation and marketing.

Furthermore, they rose suspected illegal capture of seawater to the tanks.

The operation had the collaboration of the Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE), which notified the former National Team defender to close the establishment. ASAE and DGRM have issued seizure notices and seafood with documentation will be subjected to medical-veterinary inspections.

If approved, the seafood can be donated to charitable institutions. Otherwise it will be destroyed.

Os remaining 760 kilos of seafood seized, without documentation, must be returned to the sear with the support of the local captaincy and under the guidance of the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA). The objective is to guarantee the best conditions for the survival of seafood, using a boat from the Shipwrecked Aid Institute, notes the JN exclusive.

The warehouse where the business operated was ceded by Docapesca to Apropesca, which then leased it to the company owned by the 36-year-old cachineiro, trained at the Vila do Conde club, Rio Ave, and with spells at Nacional, Benfica and Sporting, as well as adventures in Spain, with Zaragoza and Real Madrid, and France, with Monaco.

Carlos Cruz, president of Apropesca, clarified to JN that the association is not involved in the irregularities, reinforcing that other tenant companies did not register infractions.

Currently, Coentrão, for a long time owner of the left side of the National Team, will be owner of three fishing boats. Recently, it launched an artisanal gin called Pablo. The former footballer refused to comment on the case.
