Coach Fernando Diniz commented on the possibility of midfielder Matheus Pereira leaving Cruzeiro. After Raposa’s draw with São Paulo, 1-1, at Inter&Co Soccer Week, in Orlando, in the United States, the number 10 left his future at the club open.

“Internally, I’ve heard a lot of things. There are a lot of things being said, some clubs are interested. In fact, it’s true, I won’t deny it. But, like I said, I’m a professional, blessed to be here today. It’s up to me to dedicate myself every day, to enjoy the moments. I don’t know what will happen tomorrow, in a week, in two,” he said.

“I’m happy to be here today, happy to do the pre-season here, a completely different environment to what we did last year. It is also worth highlighting the effort made by Pedrinho, from Mattos, to have this pre-season here. It’s up to me, all of us, as long as we’re here, and we don’t know until when, to dedicate ourselves to Cruzeiro as much as possible”, he concluded.

After Matheus Pereira’s statement, Fernando Diniz was asked if the midfielder will leave. The coach wants the player to remain at the club.

“As for Matheus Pereira, what I can say is that we really want him to stay. It is fully adapted. I have a great relationship with him. He has a very good relationship with the cast. He is a player who has great quality. It has everything to do with what we think about football. In my mind, he will stay to help us this season. It’s what everyone wants and what the club thinks,” said Diniz.

Matheus Pereira not only started as a starter against São Paulo, but also scored the only celestial goal in the Inter&Co Soccer Week in the FC Series. The midfielder opened the scoring of the match after just 30 seconds, with a shot from the goalkeeper’s corner that filled the net at the Inter&Co Stadium, in Orlando.

Matheus Pereira desired?

Cruzeiro’s star player last season, Matheus Pereira was linked to Palmeiras in this transfer window. Alviverde Paulista has already signed two important players and is still looking for a third man to play the role of playmaker. In total, more than R$150 million was spent on strikers Paulinho and Facundo Torres.

Enlightened year

The year 2024 for midfielder Matheus Pereira was bright. The Cruzeiro star entered the field on 59 occasions, scored 11 goals and provided 15 assists. His good performance led to him being called up by coach Dorival Júnior to the Brazilian team for the first time in his career.
