Federal Police investigate scheme in Series D of the Brazilian Championship

The prosecutor’s office of the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) denounced coach Estevam Soares and six other people for participating in a football results manipulation scheme.
The irregularities would have occurred to benefit bettors in Patrocinense-MG games, in Series D of the Brazilian Championship last year.

Those involved will be reported and judged based on the Brazilian Code of Sports Justice (CBJD). The Prosecutor’s Office also requested the application of article 70.1 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code so that all those accused also serve their sentences internationally.
The investigations were conducted by the Federal Police and the suspicion of irregularities began with Patrocinense’s 3-0 defeat to Inter de Limeira. All goals were scored in the first half.
Estevam Soares was the coach of the Minas Gerais club in the match. The coach has played for major Brazilian football teams, such as Guarani, Ponte Preta, Grêmio, Botafogo and Palmeiras.
In Bahian football, Estevam Soares led Vitória da Conquista in 2018. As a player, he played for Bahia in 1985 and 1986. At the end of his career, he also played for Fluminense de Feira.
