From the variety show to the Albanian royal court – the career of Franziska Janko


Born 120 years ago as the daughter of a Viennese gardener, Franziska Janko danced her way into the heart of the Albanian ruler and later King Ahmed Zogu, which enabled her to achieve a meteoric social rise. But her infertility ultimately prevented her from transitioning from mistress to queen. She died forgotten in a Vienna sanatorium.
