The Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad (PT)announced this Wednesday (15) that the government will publish a Provisional Measure (MP) to reinforce the free and confidential nature of Pix.
This is a government reaction to the wave of fake news circulating around Pix, with lies such as that the government would start taxing transactions made with the instrument.
This movement was caused by a normative instruction from the Federal Revenue Service that came into force this year.
According to Haddad, the president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) is about to sign the text of the MP, which was closed this afternoon.
“The Provisional Measure reinforces the principles of both the non-encumbrance of free use of Pix and all banking secrecy clauses surrounding Pix, which were two objects of exploitation by these people who are, in our opinion, committing a crime , because when you discredit a public instrument, you are committing a crime”, stated the minister, in a speech at Palácio do Planalto.
Haddad also said that he received reports of people receiving bills at home with the Federal Revenue Service logo, which would be harming the popular economy.
“The Provisional Measure reinforces these two principles and practically equates payment in Pix to payment in cash. What does this mean? That these practices that are being used today, based on fake news, of charging more for what is paid in Pix, compared to in cash, are prohibited”, added the minister.
