After a knife attack on a gymnasium in Spišská Stará Ves (Kežmarok district), two people are reported dead. The operation center of the emergency medical service also confirmed that one patient with moderate injuries was transported to the hospital in Poprad. The number of other injured is not yet known. The police have already detained the suspect pupil. “From the information obtained so far, he should have attacked the teacher and two classmates with a knife” she specified.
What happened at the gymnasium on Thursday is a real tragedy, said the President of the Slovak Republic Peter Pellegrini in his statement. Whatever the motive of the assailant, he left two dead and another wounded. TASR was informed about this by the communication department of the Office of the President of the Slovak Republic.
Health Minister Kamil Šaško (Voice-SD) expressed his condolences to the families of the victims. He stated this on the social network. “I am extremely sorry for the violent attack that happened at the gymnasium in Spišská Stará Ves. I express my sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims. Such acts have no place in our society,” he zoomed in.
Minister of the Interior Matúš Šutaj Eštok (Voice-SD) condemned the knife attack on the gymnasium and is leaving for the scene of the tragedy. He informed about it on the social network. “I condemn the attack of the student who stabbed the teacher and his classmates at the gymnasium,” said Eštok. He expressed his sincere condolences to the families of the victims and a speedy recovery to the injured.
The Minister of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the SR Tomáš Drucker (Hlas-SD) also went to the scene of the tragic event. “The event, which affected not only Slovak education, but also our entire country, is extremely painful, and words can hardly express the extent of the sadness that we all feel.” wrote.
“The Ministry of Education is ready to provide maximum assistance in managing this difficult situation. Our priority is to provide psychological and other professional support for children, teachers and all school employees who were directly or indirectly affected by this tragedy,” he assured.
