One of the idols in Vitória’s recent history, striker Osvaldo lived an emotional night. This Wednesday (15), he returned to action after more than four months away from the field due to a pulmonary thromboembolism, and scored one of the goals in the 4-1 Red and Black defeat of Juazeirense. At the end of the match, Osvaldo celebrated his return.

“I glorify God for this moment, after four months, I was dying to experience it here again, experience the locker room, get on the field and do my best. I thank the entire Vitória medical team, everything was very quick to medical team at Santa Izabel Hospital, my pulmonologist Rafaela Martins, my angiologist Aldo Brasil, who also gave me all the support, my whole family, my wife, my children. I praise God, being able to come back, score and come away with victory. difficult to play in the Juazeirense field, but now it’s time to continue the battle as there’s still a lot of good things ahead,” he said in an interview with TVE.

Osvaldo had played the last match in September, against Vasco, for the Brazilian Championship. He was listed for the game against Atlético-GO, in Goiânia, but felt unwell and was not used. Upon returning to Salvador, the player suffered pulmonary thromboembolism.

Due to the problem, he was removed from activities and was left out of the final stretch of the season. The forecast was that the attacker would spend between three and four months without performing intense physical activity.

Due to his age, there was speculation about the athlete’s retirement, but throughout the recovery period Osvaldo maintained his light training routine at Toca do Leão with the expectation of returning to play in 2025.

The striker was greatly celebrated by the fans in Juazeiro. Osvaldo arrived at Vitória in 2023 and participated in the promotion campaign with the Series B title. For the Red and Black, he played 90 matches, scored 16 goals and provided 11 assists. The number 11 also won the Baianão title last year.
