and renew the command on the 1st and, in addition to the presidencies, elect another 12 positions that make up the respective Boards of Directors. As is common on these occasions, most of the seats have already been allocated between the parties, but there are still open disputes.

Even with the possibility of changes until election day, Jair Bolsonaro’s PL will appear in the vice-presidency of both Houses, but with names more linked to the “central wing” of the party than to the wing loyal to the former president.

In the Chamber, the nominee is the current leader of the bench, Altineu Côrtes (RJ). In the Senate, .

For the presidency of the Chamber and Senate, the overwhelming favorites are (-PB) and (-AP). There are candidates who will compete with them, but without party support and with almost no chance.

The choice of PL members from the more moderate wing aims to reduce resistance from the government and other parties that, although center and right-wing, are also part of Lula’s (PT) ministry.

Retaliated by the current president of the Senate, (-MG), for taking office in 2023, he spent the last two years with .

In order not to repeat the mistake, Bolsonaro personally negotiated the party’s support in both Houses — in addition to the amnesty for himself in relation to the electoral convictions that made him ineligible — and the spaces.

Alcolumbre committed to dividing the positions according to the size of each of the parties, but did not hide his preference for names he trusted, such as Eduardo Gomes, with whom he is a friend.

Favorite for the double with Alcolumbre in the presidency, Gomes sought to refute the accusation of his party colleagues that he was not a “root” Bolsonaro supporter in private conversations, claiming to have strenuously defended the Bolsonaro government when he was leader of the government in the National Congress.

Another Alcolumbre ally in the PL, Bolsonaro supporter Marcos Rogério (RO) is expected to assume the presidency of the Senate Infrastructure Committee, responsible for the hearing of the Senate.

In both the Chamber and the Senate, the Boards of Directors are made up of two vice-presidencies and four other secretariats. In addition to gaining political prestige, the occupants are responsible for certain administrative issues — such as the management of functional properties or the issuance of diplomatic passports — and gain the right to more positions and funds.

For the second vice-presidency of the Chamber, the most popular candidate is a 24-year-old deputy, son of another current federal deputy.

Lula da Fonte (-PE) was elected in 2022 at the age of 21 with the support of his father, Eduardo da Fonte (PP-PE), who is 52. Sheet he was unable to speak to Lula da Fonte. When asked about his son’s candidacy for the position, the father simply said: “We are working.”

Lula’s PT should have the first secretary of the Chamber, with Carlos Veras (PE), and the second vice-presidency in the Senate, with Humberto Costa (PT).

Despite the prestige of the second vice-presidency (which, in theory, assumes command of the House in the absence of the president and the first vice-president), one of the most coveted positions is the first secretariat — known as the House’s “mayor”, for taking care of the administrative part.

In the Senate, the position was chosen precisely by the owner of the largest bench, the PSD. With 15 senators, the party must appoint Daniela Ribeiro (PB) as first secretary and Otto Alencar as president of the most important commission, the CCJ (Constitution and Justice Commission).

The other positions on the Senate Board of Directors are also practically closed, according to congressmen involved in the negotiations. Senator Confúcio Moura (RO) should be nominated by the MDB for the second secretariat. With the third largest bench (behind the PSD and PL), the party should also command the second main commission, Economic Affairs, with Renan Calheiros (AL).

MDB and PSD will also occupy some of the secretariats of the Board of Directors of the Chamber, consolidating the dominance of center and right-wing parties, which are the majority in Congress.

There is still uncertainty regarding the positions to be occupied by União Brasil in the .

The party tried to nominate the leader of the bench, Elmar Nascimento (BA), as a candidate for president of the Chamber, but he ended up being forced to give up, in November, after the current commander of the House, (PP-AL), opted for Hugo Motta as your candidate.

As a result, Elmar is tipped to chair the Chamber’s Constitution and Justice Committee or report on the 2026 Budget — this last vacancy, however, was agreed upon for the MDB, which has not yet defined a name.

The party may also try to seek the second vice-presidency, which would shuffle the cards.
