“We overturned the decision”, said deputy after a publication criticizing the Lula government’s decision went viral on social media
The video on the Instagram profile of the federal deputy (PL-MG) in which he criticizes the rule surpassed the mark of 275 million views at 4:10 am this Thursday (16 January 2025). “It’s time to understand that, if we don’t stop Lula, Lula will stop Brazil”disse Nikolas.
In the recording that was shared last Tuesday (January 14), Nikolas Ferreira states that the government wants to monitor informal workers as if they were “big tax evaders”. The number of views of the video is greater than the Brazilian population, which has 212.6 million inhabitants, according to the latest demographic census.
“The villain in Brazil is whoever earns R$5,000 and doesn’t declare it in order to survive. Do you really want Brazilians to swallow this?”he said. The deputy argued in the video that the government’s measure would cause Brazilians to stop using Pix, debit or credit cards and other methods of financial transactions to avoid federal revenue inspection.
The inspection rule determined that the Tax Authorities could closely monitor anyone who made transfers of more than R$5,000 through digital payments. This does not mean, however, that a government fee per operation had been created. The idea of the measure was to facilitate the identification of those who do not pay taxes.
The deputy said that his party had sued the STF (Supreme Federal Court) to overturn the Federal Revenue’s decision. Last Wednesday (15 January) the deputy shared a version of the video subtitled in English by a follower, on his profile on X (formerly Twitter). “My video exposing the Lula government reached more than 145 million views on Instagram, one of the most watched political videos in history”these.
The Federal Revenue is adopting regulations that increased supervision of transfers above R$5,000 from Pix, according to an announcement by the agency’s secretary, Robinson Barreirinhas. “Unfortunately, these unscrupulous people aim to harm the most humble people in the country, including creating room for crimes to be committed based on this lie. Unfortunately, this damage is ongoing. And because of this continuity of damage, this manipulation of this act by the Revenue, I decided to revoke this act”he declared.
Representative Nikolas Ferreira made the decision, associating the measure with the repercussions of its publication. “Passing by to let you know that you, Brazilian worker, can use Pix again without the government’s magnifying glass. The PT tried to monitor its money, especially that of the poorest, but the people came together on the social network and we overturned the decision. With just a black background and no public money, we fight against all attacks from a purchased press and a government that spends millions of its money on marketing”these.
