Three motorcycles were seized

Last Wednesday (15), the carried out the seizure of three motorcycles belonging to under the justification that they were operating clandestinely in the transport of passengers. The company, in turn, argues that its activities are legal, but the municipal administration is based on legislation that prohibits this type of service in the city. A judge has already rejected 99’s request to suspend the seizure action.

The inspection was carried out by the Department of Public Transport (DTP) in conjunction with the Metropolitan Civil Guard (GCM). During the operation, a motorcyclist was approached while transporting a passenger, who had requested the ride using the 99 app. This approach confirmed the practice that the city hall considers irregular.

The seizures are based on municipal laws 15,676/2012 and 16,344/2016, which prohibit the paid transport of passengers on motorcycles in the capital of São Paulo. In response to the situation, 99 announced that it will support motorcyclists who face costs arising from the seizures and that it intends to appeal to the São Paulo Court of Justice to contest the decision.

Furthermore, the São Paulo Motoboys Union, known as SindimotoSP, issued guidelines to motorcyclists, advising them to avoid the practice of “clandestine motorcycle taxis”. This recommendation aims to protect workers from seizures and possible legal consequences that may arise from this activity.
