The knife attack on the grammar school in Spišská Stará Ves is a painful reminder of how fragile the safety of our children is, and highlights the urgent need for action. Commissioner for Children Jozef Mikloško he stated this on the social network.
“Schools must be a safe place, a place of trust and peace, where children can develop without any fear for their safety. My sincere condolences to the bereaved and support to all those affected by this tragic event,Mikloško declared.
As Commissioner for Children, he calls on all responsible actors to take immediate action together to increase safety in schools. “We need to focus on effective prevention measures while addressing children’s mental health to prevent tragedies,” appeals Mikloško.
The victims of Thursday’s attack on the gymnasium in Spišská Stará Ves are two women aged 18 and 51. The injured was an 18-year-old woman who was taken to a hospital in Poprad with moderate injuries. A 51-year-old man and a 62-year-old woman were also treated on the spot due to an acute stress reaction. TASR was informed about this by Danka Capáková from the Operations Center of the SR Emergency Medical Service. The police have already detained the suspect pupil.
