Air from the sea will bring moisture, which should help the firefighters.

Gusts of wind and dryness persisted in the American Los Angeles during Thursday, but the weather should gradually improve. In the meantime, firefighters hope to be able to extinguish two large-scale forest fires that are ravaging the area, TASR writes, according to a Reuters report.

Late Wednesday night, most fire warnings were canceled in Los Angeles. Only a warning remained in effect for a location east of the metropolitan area, where winds of 25 to 40 kilometers per hour were expected with gusts up to 60 kilometers per hour, the US National Weather Service said.

According to the service, starting around the end of Thursday, the air flow will change and bring relative humidity from the sea, which will help reduce the risk of wildfires. However, it is expected that the situation will improve only in the short term and on Sunday the warnings will probably be issued again, writes Reuters.

They report a new fire

A new fire broke out Wednesday in San Bernardino County, east of Los Angeles, burning 14 hectares, Cal Fire said. Two other wildfires in Southern California were largely contained.

The fires that have been raging in Los Angeles for one and a half weeks have engulfed an area almost the size of the city of Washington DC. According to the authorities, they have claimed at least 25 lives so far. At the same time, more than 12,000 houses and other structures were damaged or destroyed. More than 200,000 people were forced to leave their homes.

Rebuilding after wildfires that left some Los Angeles neighborhoods in smoldering ruins will require staggering costs in the billions of dollars, US President Joe Biden said on Monday.
