Santa Catarina’s Civil Defense reported this Friday (17) that the state, which has been hit by heavy rain in recent days, is on alert for flooding and landslides throughout the weekend.
Between Thursday (16) and Friday (17), the Fire Department was called to 366 incidents in 27 municipalities. In total, 2,007 people were served by the corporation. One victim died. To date, ten municipalities have declared an emergency due to the consequences caused by the storm, according to Civil Defense.
This Friday, firefighters found the body of a 72-year-old man who had disappeared from a fishing ranch in the city of Governador Celso Ramos, 55 kilometers from Florianópolis.
According to Civil Defense data, in the last 24 hours, the highest rainfall accumulations were recorded in Biguaçu (391 mm), Florianópolis (344 mm) and Tijucas (325 mm). The weather forecast indicates more rain in the coming hours, with moderate to heavy intensity, which maintains the alert for landslides and flooding, especially in Greater Florianópolis and the North Coast.
“Right now, we are working in two situations: firstly, we are focused on emergency care for the affected population, with all of our staff committed to rescues and rescues. But we are also already mobilized to support the recovery of the affected areas, with our self-tank trucks already sent to support the affected municipalities”, stated Colonel Jefferson de Souza, deputy general commander of the Santa Catarina Fire Department.
