Following a complaint from the family of an 11-month-old baby who died last Wednesday night (15), in the capital’s emergency room, after being transferred from Ary Rodrigues Hospital, in Senador Guiomard, reporting possible negligence in care child, Sesacre issued a clarification note on the case.
The child, just 11 months old, suffered burns to his face after touching a pot of hot chocolate, in the Vila Caquetá region. The victim was taken to Ary Rodrigues hospital, in Senador Guiomard and then transferred to the emergency room, where he did not resist and died.
Below is the note in full:
The State Department of Health (Sesacre) comes, first of all, to express its deepest solidarity with the family of Nicolas Iglessia da Silva, 11 months old, at this time of pain and suffering due to the irreparable loss of their loved one. We are closely and respectfully following developments in the case, which involved medical care in our healthcare network, and we would like to clarify the facts with complete transparency.
Nicolas was initially treated at Ary Rodrigues Hospital, in Senador Guiomard, where he was admitted at 6:11 pm, receiving immediate and appropriate first aid. After medical evaluation, the child was taken to the Rio Branco Emergency Room at 7:51 pm, being transported to an advanced support unit, with the presence of a qualified team to provide the necessary care. At that moment, Nicolas’ clinical condition was considered stable, with no indication for intubation, as the patient did not show signs that would justify such a procedure.
Upon arriving at the Emergency Room, the child was quickly taken to the emergency room, where it was found that, due to the severe burns on his face, intubation became necessary to guarantee a definitive airway, given the presence of edema in the glottis. Unfortunately, after the procedure, the patient suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest. Despite the intense and continuous efforts of the medical team, it was not possible to reverse the condition and, unfortunately, Nicolas did not survive.
Sesacre reaffirms its commitment to transparency and ethics in public management and, to this end, will open a Disciplinary Administrative Process (PAD) to investigate all the circumstances of what happened and ensure that all actions adopted are in accordance with quality and security requirements. The Secretariat also makes itself available to the competent authorities to fully collaborate with the investigation.
We sympathize with the family and reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that all services to the population are carried out with the utmost diligence, respect and professionalism.
The note was signed by Ana Cristina Moraes, Deputy Secretary of Health Care at the State Department of Health of Acre.
