DECO PROteste has been monitoring the price evolution of a basket of 63 essential food products on a weekly basis, recently recording a slight increase in the total cost. Currently, the value of the basket is R$240, reflecting a price variation in relation to previous periods. Find out in this article what has risen the most, whether since the last update, on January 8, or since the war in Ukraine began.
This basket includes a variety of daily consumption goods, such as meat (turkey, chicken), fish (mackerel, hake), vegetables (onion, potato, carrot), fruit (banana, apple, orange), dairy products (milk, cheese, butter) and grocery products (rice, spaghetti, sugar, ham). The selection aims to offer a broad view of the evolution of prices of products essential to family nutrition.
Between January 8th and 15th, 2025, the price of the basket increased by R$0.94, which corresponds to an increase of 0.39%. When comparing the current value with that recorded at the beginning of the month, there was an increase of R$3.91, that is, 1.66%.
On the other hand, a broader analysis of the period between January 17, 2024 and January 15, 2025 indicates a drop of R$0.91 in the price of the basket, equivalent to a reduction of 1.91%. This data may indicate a stabilization trend or even a slight drop compared to the same period of the previous year.
Since the start of the conflict in Ukraine in February 2022, the impact on the global market has been evident. The price of the food basket increased by €56.45, which represents an increase of 30.74%. Comparing to January 2022, the accumulated increase is €52.38, equivalent to 27.91%.
Among the products with the biggest increases, fresh fish stands out, the price of which increased by almost €2 in one week. Since the beginning of the year, the increase has been 22%. Salmon also registered an increase of 19% in the same period. These variations may be related to factors such as seasonality, weather conditions or fluctuations in supply and demand.
